Spitballing ideas that @Ingress can steal

Looking at local comms gave me a chuckle, hopefully an elder frog got the tadpole straightened out. We talked about a red faction at a recent IFS, everyone thought that if there ever was a red faction there would be a mass exodus from the others.

An Idea: an anomaly releases a burst of powerful dark XM, causing certain Machina portals to “infect” an Agent’s scanner. When infected, the Agent becomes Machina. While infected, the now Agent/Machina can only act as Machina does. They are only able to throw links to clear portals from red ones. No capturing portals otherwise, and no fielding.

Global challenge ensues to best the Machina infection AP score, or (fill in the blanks/storyline/lore.) A clear-out global challenge could also be a way to clear reds when there are too many as has been done recently.

The infection would be temporary, lasting 13 hours and 31 minutes or some such. Agents should be able to ADA/Jarvis as needed to clear the infection if they choose not to participate. Once “cured” of the infection, agents should be immune for the duration of the challenge to make sure not everyone playing Ingress is trying to be red.
